This Renaissance village château once belonged to Marguerite de Navarre, sister of the King, Francois I. There are still a few 14th century architectural details remaining, however the 17th century renaissance style dominates. The property is, in effect, 2 houses in an L-shape around a walled central courtyard with a swimming pool.

The 'master' house has some extraordinary stonework with vaulted archways and a grand staircase, and the 'Maison d'Amis has also retained some of its grandeur. This property has been cleverly restored preserving the authentic carved limestone window surrounds and doorways, especially in the intimate entry courtyard.

This is ideal for 2 or 3 families who want to be together and yet preserve a sense of independence. The total living space comprises 550m2.

*Please note that in April and over the Easter period only 2 week bookings are accepted for both 'Maison de Maitre' and 'Maison d'Amis'. It is possible to rent just the 'big' house 'Maison de Maitre' for one week from April.

Clients Comments

We just wanted to tell you that our week in the Chateau Navarre in July was absolutely wonderful. It is a superb place and the furnishings and facilities are excellent. We all loved the little village of Montblanc and it was so handy being able to pop out and buy fresh croissants and baguettes each morning from one or other of the local bakers (we alternated to be fair) and fresh fruit and veggies from the little shop a few meters from our gate. I don't think we could have been happier. Thank you for all your help. Greg and Jill Aplin, July 2008

'MAISON DE MAITRE'

Ground Floor:
Enter through the enclosed walled courtyard full of amazing carved architectural stone features - one can eat there in the summer as well as by the pool. Large entry hall with attractive tiled floor, which leads to a magnificent living room (42m2). The stonework around the windows and the vaulted archway, as well as the large painted beams and a wooden ceiling 'a la francaise', are an echoe of renaissance elegance, however, the living room is full comfortable furniture and has a few nice antique pieces. There is a regal stone fireplace and French windows which lead directly into the garden and a terrace with pool.

From the living room one can pass through to a large airy, modern, independent kitchen/dining room (25m2). At one end you have a fully equipped kitchen with plenty of work surfaces and at the other you have a large dining table.

The kitchen goes through to the pantry/laundry room, 7m2.

Independent wc.

The second door in the kitchen goes out to a 'secret walled courtyard' remarkable for it's restoration of the carved stone details rising quite high - ideal for eating out when the sun is high and providing the much needed shade at noon. The entrance hall also has a 'front door' entrance into a gravelled forecourt large enough to park 3 cars comfortably and securely behind large metal gates.

Wide stairs (17 shallow steps) lead to the upper floor bedrooms.

First Floor
The stairs lead to a study/bedroom with a single bed. ( In this room there is another wooden staircase which is blocked off and gated for the owner's private use).

2nd bedroom (18m2) - twin bedded ( 160x2m) room with a balcony looking over the garden and the pool.

3rd bedroom (14m2) - 2 Napoleonic single beds so equivalent to king size bed.

Independent wc at the end of the corridor.
Across the corridor there is a very large bathroom with a free standing 'venetian' shower, a bath, 2 wash hand basins and an attractive exposed stone wall.

'MAISON D'AMIS'
Ground Floor:
The 'Maison d'amis' is just across the garden from the 'maison de maitre' also overlooking the pool, comprising ground floor and two storeys above.

2 steps lead into a large open plan living room/kitchen. There are two comfortable sofas and a TV. The open plan kitchen comprises a double sink, an oven, a cooker and a small fridge.

Lovely old terracotta stairs (17 steps - quite steep and narrow) go up to the first floor landing.

First Floor:
Off the landing there is an independent WC. A separate shower room with a wash hand basin.

1st Bedroom - (15m2)- 2 single beds (twinnable)

2nd Bedroom (13m2) - 2 single beds (twinnable) - both these bedrooms look out on to the garden and the pool.
Turning stairs climb up to the second floor:

Second Floor:
3rd Bedroom (14m2) - 2 single beds (twinnable)
4th Bedroom (13m2) - 2 single beds (twinnable) - these also overlook the garden and pool - quite low window ledges so may be unsuitable for toddlers, although there are shutters in all the bedrooms). Again on the landing there is a separate WC and a shower room with a wash basin.
