CLIENTS' COMMENTS FROM THE HOUSE BOOK
A week in Provence is not long enough. We have enjoyed the pace of life, shops closing at lunchtime and the general feeling of contentment. This is how England was 30 years ago, and we envy them. The house is perfect for us and we look forward to returning.
A wonderful introduction to Provence. The villa has been a great base for us to explore this beautiful part of France, and very relaxing to return each evening. We will take away some wonderful memories of food, landscape, history and the local markets. A week certainly is not enough and we will return again.
We enjoyed a wonderful stay here in Caromb village. The gite is beautiful and we loved the village. People were very friendly and helpful. Thank you for sharing your holiday home with us.
CLIENTS' COMMENTS
The house is not only charming, with a special Provençale, feel but it has all the top quality modern amenities you really like but hesitate to say you need on a holiday. We loved the 'feel', comfort and artistic touches. The outside area around the pool was just wonderful with Mount Ventoux, snowcapped in the background. We had to have WiFi, for business purposes, which as you are aware, seems to be absent from most French apartments, villas or for that matter hotels. Knowing our car was safely housed in a locked up garage was also important. We never had any problems. They came, checked the pool without us ever being aware of their presence. Madeleine and Damien are without doubt the most charming couple. Madeleine has compiled the most fantastic House Book with innumerable, detailed places to visit, markets, and things, strenuous or not, to do for any age. We just wish we'd paid greater attention where she recommended to eat! We would love to return some time in the future. I will not hesitate to recommend the villa to friends and familly. Au revoir
Evans Family, May 2008.
I recently rented your property VU12 (Mas Madeleine) in Caromb, France. Wanted to say that the property exceeded our expectations, was in pristine condition, and our stay was fabulous. The area is so quaint & very charming. The landlords may definitely use me as a reference if they need to. By the way, I do plan to return! I forgot to mention that I plan to use WWW.SOUTHFRANCEVILLAS.COM whenever I can. The service levels were supreme.

In the heart of a typical and charming Proveçal village, the property grounds include an enclosed swimming pool, a gravelled courtyard with oleander, lavender, rosemary, young cypress and olive trees and other flowering shrubs and a shaded terrace with views.
Adjacent to the house is a shaded stone terrace with dining table. The terrace faces north, which makes it the ideal location for leisurely outdoor meals. And you’re just minutes walk from the plane-tree shaded main square with cafés, restaurants, bakeries, markets and other services and the bustle of French Provençal village life.
The entry hall opens to a spacious open-plan living-dining room. It is light and bright thanks to striking leaded stained-glass doors opening to the terrace and pool. At one end two beige upholstered sofas are grouped around an ottoman-coffee table. Behind is the dining area with French country table and chairs and an antique chest. A cane bench and chairs complete this appealing room.
Adjacent to the dining area is the gallery kitchen. Well designed and fully equipped, it has terracotta tile counters and grey wood cabinets. Also on this level are separate toilet facilities.
Stairs from the entry lead to two bedrooms, each with twin beds and en suite bathrooms. The bedrooms feature comfortable beds with lovely quilts, antique tables, lamps chests and fans.
The bathrooms boast beautiful ceramic tilework with colourful tiles over the sinks. One of the bathrooms includes toilet facilities. The other has a shower and sink en suite, with separate toilet facilities in the hall.
This property has achieved 4* status with 'Clevacances' and is is next door to our other house accommodating 6 people. Each house may be rented separately. They may also be rented together for 10 people. |

Caromb is a fortified village situated high in the foothills of the Ventoux mountain and close to the Dentelles de Montmirail, 12 km north of Carpentras. Caromb has preserved some very interesting monuments within its ramparts. It is endowed with one of the largest Romanesque churches in the Vaucluse: the church of Saint Maurice, erected in the 14th century.
The fountain on the square which dates from 1749 with its 4 stone mascarons represents the legend of King Midas who was saved from dying of thirst thanks to a mysterious well found in the middle of the desert.
In the Lauron valley about 2 km away, the Paty dam has created a man-made lake that is much appreciated by anglers. In summer one can also bathe there. Caromb apricots are also very well known. So don't miss out on the Tuesday morning market.
The local speciality is pork and white kidney beans au gratin. This dish is a meal in itself..., the locals will tell you in their inimitable accent: "cassoulet is a joke compared to this"... and they're not wrong! A bit of advice: better visit the village first and eat afterwards...
Appx 12kms east of Carpentras - it is famous for it's St. Siffrein Fair - it begins on the 27th of November and coincides with the equally famous black truffle market. Excellent candied fruit, strawberries, melon, bonbons, "berlingots" and grapes (used for the wine Cotes de Ventoux) are all specialities claimed by the city of Carpentras.
Appx 20km N of Isle-sur Sorgue, a beautiful town of mills and waterways, famous for its antique shops (some 350 of them!!)
Appx 20km NW of the Luberon (the spectacular Fontaine de Vaucluse, Gordes).
Appx 30km NE of Avignon (Palais des Papes).
10 km E of Carpentras. Attractive market town with medieval centre. All services, good restaurants.
20 km S of Mont Ventoux.
Horse riding: 8km
Golf: 20km
