Exceptionally charming stone-built cottage with its own swimming pool and garden, just 3 minutes drive from the hill-top village of Gordes, one of the most beautiful villages in France. The cottage is a part of a Provencal Mas, with the bigger house next door, which is also available for rent in the summer months. The cottage has an independent entrance, and is decorated to a very high standard.

Clients' comments

Having returned for some weeks now, I wanted to let you know that we very much enjoyed our week at Les Muriers near Gordes. Your web site information was very accurate and provided a good snapshot of the cottage. Les Muriers was in a great location and we had a wonderful time exploring the delights of Provence in summer. I would have no hesitation in recommending South France Villas to others - Mrs Watson, July 2008

This cottage is pleasantly and comfortably furnished, and has views beyond the garden of cypress trees and the foothills of the Luberon mountains.

There is an open plan living room/dining room (with a large convertible sofa bed 175cm x 200cm) with big sliding glass doors opening onto a terrace and the swimming pool. The kitchen area is equipped, amongst other things, with a large fridge/freezer, 2 electric hot-plates, a coffee maker, a toaster and a microwave and a washing machine and dryer.

Nicely furnished double bedroom (160cm x 200cm) and an ensuite shower room with wc. There is also a single bed mattress available if needed by a small child.

There is a terrace furnished with a table and chairs plus two sunbeds, and two chaise-longue. Beyond the 8mx4m pool (alarm system) is a lawn with surrounding flower beds. A parasol next to the pool for shade.

The cottage is not detached but is a part of a bigger provencal 'mas' with it's own entrance around the back. The 'mas' next door is also a rental property with it's own pool. The two properties are independent of each other however, there is a metal gate (normally shut) between the two houses for when the owner is there with her family. The two gardens are separated by a high cypress hedge, and some green fencing. Some noise from next door may carry, especially when the pool is in use.

There is a very nice private stone walled garden without any 'vis a vis' round the back of the pool, with a wooden pergola over the side terrace.

The villa is about 3 km from the village of Gordes in the heart of the Luberon. The village has a graceful Renaissance Château with a museum devoted to the contemporary painter Vasarély and nearby is a neolithic settlement of Bories, primitive beehive-shaped drystone houses. Roussillon, 10 minutes away, is situated on a hill surrounded by ochre cliffs and you can follow the trail through the Colorado Provençal towards the village of Rustrel. Both villages have excellent restaurants.

8KM Abbey de Senanque and Le Musee de la Lavande.

20 km W of Apt, famous for crystallised fruit, has a large market on Saturday mornings. and the vast antique market at L'Isle-sur-La Sorgue, are both 20 minutes from here. Ancient Avignon is an hour's drive away.

20 km E of Isle-sur Sorgues - A beautiful town of mills and waterways, famous for its antique shops (some 350 of them!!). Golf course.

17km WE of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse - Source of the river Sorgue, that rises at the foot of spectacular, limestone cliffs. The home of Petrach.

30km E of Les-Baux-de-Provence, fortified village perched on dramatic scarps, reknowned for its restaurants.

40 km SE of Avignon. (Palais des Papes).

55km NW of Aix-en-Provence.

90km N of the Mediterranean beaches (less than an hour by the Autoroute).

80km N of Marseille.
