South of France Holiday Home in Magalas to sleep 8

A character filled wine growers holiday house, just 300m from the centre of the village of Magalas, with fine views across the countryside. A private garden with natural pool, jacuzzi and childrens' paddling plage, plus a lovely shaded alfresco area for sitting out and dining under.

Ideal for family holidays as it is not far from Mediterranean beaches and close to historic Pezenas and Beziers, plus table tennis and boules for those friendly competitions!

A great base to explore all this part of the South of France has to offer.

Accommodation Details

South of France Family Vacation Home near Beziers, Languedoc to sleep 8

Renovated in 2006 the house has 4 en suite bedrooms with original floors of lovely Languedoc tiles, a well equipped kitchen and a large living room with access to the terrace with great views.

Attractive double front door, with feature overhead glass panel incorporating red and plain glass, leads to 7 wide steps, with handrail, which take you up to the first floor.

A door at the top of the steps leads into the airy hallway. From the hallway, a traditional one and a half sized doorway leads to the kitchen on the right. It has French windows facing the street and an original wattle and daub style ceiling.

The kitchen is fitted and has a dishwasher, medium sized fridge, dining table with a wooden bench and 2 chairs, a large dresser and a jute style rug on the tiled floor.

Beyond the kitchen is a large, high ceilinged double bedroom, with a futon and a desk, the large window faces the street. A door in the bedroom leads to the ensuite bathroom with shower, wc, wash hand basin and washing machine.

In the small hallway leading to the bathroom there is an area where the washing machine and tumble drier are situated, together with an airing cupboard.

Off the hallway to the left is another ground floor bedroom, a twin with two single beds split by a fireplace, cool whitewashed walls and original floor tiles with a large window overlooking the street.

A door in the bedroom leads to the ensuite bathroom with shower, basin and wc.

The living/dining room, which is accessed through the central hallway and via an archway on the other side of the kitchen, opens out into a large area of 30m2, which is a lounge at one end, with two sofas, two chairs and occasional table and a dining table for 8 at the other end with TV and Wi-fi. Two sets of French windows and a doorway open out on to the terrace at the rear of the property overlooking the garden and pool.

On the terrace are tables and chairs so you can enjoy the view with an aperitif! Upstairs The central hallway has a door leading to the upstairs, 14 traditional tiled steps with wooden toes take you to a landing (low beam), off which are two more bedrooms. There is currently no hand rail.

The first is a twin, with two single beds and an ensuite wet room with shower, wash hand basin and wc. A small window to the front.

The second is a twin - 2 chairs, nice beams (some low ones), a small window to the front and a roof window, plus a bathroom with shower, wash hand basin and wc.

On the ground floor you will find the "cave" and original wine "cuvees", but today it is used as a leisure area and houses the table tennis table and dartboard, There is also a lovely Summer Kitchen with pool-bar that opens directly on to the pool area and the 370m2 garden.

Outside Details

Stunning views from this South of France garden

From the street the house can be accessed via the garage doors, where a paved ramp leads to the Summer Kitchen, pool and garden. The fabulous Summer Kitchen area is apprx 30m2 and is fully equipped with hob, sink, work tops, lots of units and cupboards, a long counter/pool bar, plus a large wooden dining table to seat 10 with parasol.

Attractive lighting, traditional stone walling, feature alcoves, a lovely beamed roof and vine covered loggia make this the perfect place for alfresco dining.

Very attractive square floor tiles cover the area throughout. To the left of the Summer Kitchen is a "cave" with the table tennis table and a dart board, plus various storage areas and the pool mechanics.

Leading on from the Summer Kitchen the outside space opens out into the south-west facing garden of 370m2 which has mature plants, including rosemary, lavender, thyme, a palm and three needle cypress trees.

Three steps and a pathway lead to a 20m2 gravel area where there is a small gazebo with outdoor seating, plus two large olive trees under which you can enjoy a game of boules. Wrought iron railings, which are covered in climbing plants, surround the garden affording privacy and there are great views across to the mountains.

A feature stone wall provides a natural separation from the Summer Kitchen and the natural swimming pool. The 10m x 3.7m x 0.5-1.7 pool, paddling plage 3.7m x 15m x 0.40m and a small shallow jacuzzi area from which 3 steps lead down into the main pool. The attractive mosaic floor patterns of the pool were created by the Owner herself. The pool has an alarm.

Two sunloungers and a table are on a patio area at the end of the pool, where there is a Platane tree for shade. Portable BBQ. Outdoor cold water shower by the pool.

The well equipped Summer Kitchen has fridge, electric hob, dishwasher, work surfaces and a large dining table and chairs

Stairs from the Summer Kitchen, 14 to the landing and then another 6 lead to the first floor terrace, which runs the full length of the house, has occasional tables and chairs and a door into the house.

Parking is available close by - it is possible to stop outside the property and unload a vehicle.

Nearby Attractions & Activities

The Languedoc area of South of France has a lot to offer

Magalas - there is a colourful local market twice a week and bakery,  2café/bars, 3 restaurants, pharmacy, post office and doctor.

Beziers apprx 12 km. The cathedral dominates this busy market town, rising majestically above the river Orb. The lively Feria in August lasts five days; bull-fighting, paellas, flamenco dancing, and partying in the streets until the early hours of the morning.

Golf St Thomas Beziers: apprx 17km

Parc Naturel du Haut Languedoc apprx 20km North of Magalas are the mountains and rocky gorges of the Caroux mountains. Great canoeing on the river Orb.

Pezenas apprx 20km - a lovely Renaissance town with history, culture, a lively Saturday market and lots of cafes/bars, restaurants and boutique shopping.

Mediterranean beaches apprx 25 km - Valras, Serignan, Portiragnes Plage

Agde apprx 25 km. Old historic town and fishing port, founded by the Ancient Greeks. Nice market, excellent seafood restaurants.

Cap d'Agde apprx 30 km. 'Aqualand' (huge water-slides, etc.)
27-hole golf course.

Pezenas apprx 30km. Lovely Renaissance town centre, with artisans workshops, and plenty of restaurants. Good food market Saturdays.

Narbonne apprx 35 km. Once the capital of Roman Gaul. Famous cathedral.

Montpellier apprx 65 km. Large university town. Carcassonne 100 km. Largest fortified medieval town - UNESCO site.

Nimes apprx 105 km. Roman temple and arena.

Perpignan apprx 110km Palace of Kings of Mallorca.
