From the central circular staircase you can access the second level to the roof garden and spa pool with deck, which is dotted with large planters housing palms and indigenous plants. An array of luxury sun loungers, sofas and parasols offer a slice of paradise in which to relax and chill out whilst gazing at the Mediterranean.

The mosaic tiled Spa pool is approx 3.5m x 2.5m, (can be heated on request) and has Roman steps.

A little bit of history! In 1860 the "Comte de Nice", property of the Maison de Savoie since 1388, became part of France. The village of Saint Jean, then part of Villefranche, was a small group of houses around the Church and harbour, whose inhabitants were fishermen or land workers. In 1876 the "Water Company", created, on a site now occupied by the Zoo, a park with trees and a 6800m2 artificial lake with an island and waterfalll, with water brought from the river Vésubie. This water supply meant that the Peninsular, which had been rocky and dry, could develop a more varied vegetation. From that point Cap Ferrat became a popular picnic spot for wealthy families from Nice and many restaurants started to spring up. In 1904 Saint Jean became independent from Villefranche and in 1907 became known as St Jean Cap Ferrat. The Grand Hotel was constructed in 1908 to accommodate the new wealthy cosmopolitan clientele and luxurious villas were built, especially by Belgian King Leopold II who acquired much of the land on the west side of the Cap. About the same time Baroness Ephrussi de Rothschild bought 7 hectares on the hill overlooking the sea and built a palace!

In the 1950's St Jean Cap Ferrat became a popular summer resort for the rich and famous - visitors included Edith Piaf, Charlie Chaplin, Burton and Taylor, Roger Moore, Tony Curtis and Statesmen such as de Gaulle, Churchill, Bush and Clinton, plus Artists such as Matisse, Chagall, Jean Cocteau and still today "the Glitteratti", together with Royalty, cannot resist the charm of the Cap.

Beaches and seaside paths, offer delightful walks - why not walk all the way around and see the natural beauty and the fabulous Belle Epoque properties, magnificent gardens and historical sights - including The Saint Hospice Chapel, the Church of Saint John the Baptist, Statue of the Virgin Mary and of course the amazing Villa St Jean Cap Ferrat.

The Villa St Jean Cap Ferrat - the Palazzo of Baroness Ephrussi de Rothschild - is one of the most beautiful on the French Riviera - an architectural wonder containing approx 5000 artworks from around the world it is a collector's paradise. In addition, its nine wonderful gardens, between sea and sky overlooking the bay of Villefranche, are adorned with patios, fountains, ponds, flowers and shaded paths. A must see! Beaches include:- Cro de Pei Pin - located on the north side of the main port at Anse Lilong and is the biggest. Paloma - again on the north side at th foot of the cliffs - the least windy and good for less experienced swimmers. Passable - on the northwest side this is generally the busiest as it is close to local attractions and the Visitor Centre. Cap Ferrat Watersports, based at Paloma Beach, offers personalised training in wakeboarding, waterskiing, wakesurfing, Jet Ski. Why not visit Cap Ferrat Zoological Park where you can learn about the natural wildlife on the Peninsular. Restaurants are in abundance and are too numerous to mention individually.

The property is positioned directly above the beach in St Jean Cap Ferrat and within short walking distance, apprx 330mts, to the village and the port where you will find a multitude of shops and restaurants.

The beach is 10m from the property and accessible via a staircase by the front door of the villa.

Both Paloma Beach and Passable Beach are walking distance from the villa. Monaco Golf Course - approx 20 minutes.
