Situated within the 8 hectare Estate of the historic 13th Century Chateau, HE097A Domaine Occitania, and dating back to medieval times, this unique stone property, was once 'the Orangerie'. It has been lovingly restored by the Chatelaine, an Interior Designer, who lives in the Chateau and who believes strongly in the Japanses ethos of letting the original fabric of the building live in harmony with the renovations.

It is quintessentially full of panache combining contemporary design which complements the original structure. This property has featured in many design magazines from 'Elle' Decoration to 'Modern Rustic', since its recent completion, and is full of imaginative use of space, with echoes of the exotic, reflected in the outside Balinese style bathroom, surrounded by bamboo. It is a true 'private retreat'.

The Orangerie, is part of 8 houses on the Estate, and can be rented in its own right and is a mix of traditional and modern chic. Ideal as a honeymoon cottage or perfect when rented together with the larger property for wedding and special events. 

Sleeping 6 people in 3 air conditioned bedrooms (one of which is accessible for disabled guests) with 4 bathrooms. Floor to ceiling stone columns and flooded with light from five 4 metre high glass windows, the property, set in almost exotic vegetation of ancient bamboo, mature palms, and green oak, has the feel of living outside from the inside.

Not far from the Mediterranean beaches, this unique property is a great location and rented together with the rest of the HE097A Domaine Occitania, is perfect for large family groups, or weddings and special occasions. There is even a meeting room and a small consecrated Chapel within the grounds!

Accommodation Details

South of France chic and elegant Orangerie - sleeping 6 near Beziers in the Languedoc.

Tucked away, in the heart of the Chateau Parc, this luxurious South of France Vacation property has been sympathetically renovated using the traditional materials of old stone, cement tiles and lime walls and mixing modern with vintage furnishings. 

The house is on 2 levels with a large living room, 'cathedral' dining room (6 metre high ceiling), separate semi-professional kitchen with American fridge, wine cooler, piano induction cooker with oven, microwave oven and dishwasher.

The living room is an amazing space - natural stone walls, beautiful original Languedoc floor tiles, huge hanging lighting, a cynlindrical wood burner and large plants in pots that thrive in this glass space. Floor to ceiling doors lead out on to a vast terrace, with the basalt heated plunge pool at one end and a large raised terrace at the other.

For weddings/Events, when renting HE0097A Domaine Occitania as a whole, the large living area (apprx 66m2) of the Orangerie can be turned into a 'reception room' to hold around 40 guests, or house a DJ on the mezzanine overlooking the living room.

Bedroom 1 - with disabled guest access

Twin room - 2 x 90cm beds (can be made into a Kingsize 180cm) with walk in shower and basin. Air Conditioned. Separate wc. A wall of glass with a French doors gives out to the exterior Balinese shower and stone bath and views to the Bamboo forest. Wheelchair accessible.

To first floor:

A bespoke ironwork staircase leads to the gallery mezzanine - from where there is a fabulous view of the open plan living area

Bedroom 2

Kingsize bed 180cm (can be made into twin beds 2 x 90cm) with en suite walk in shower and basin. Air Conditioned. Large window with views of the bamboo.

Bedroom 3

Kingsize 200cm bed and large bath and wash hand basin. Air Conditioned. Large window with views of the bamboo and green oak forest and down to the Balinese open air bathroom below. This has a feel of a honeymoon suite and has beautiful touches like ancient linen sheets.

Separate wc shared between Bedrooms 2 and 3.

Outside Details

Apprx 300m from the Chateau, enveloped in semi-wild gardens, based on the 18th Century English concept of rediscovering nature, the 'Orangerie' offers a tranquil idyll in the South of France.

The amazing outdoor space has a very Asian feel and an idyllic retreat to relax and 'Zen'. Meandering through the Estate is a circular path, perfect for a stroll to admire the charming views and the natural tree filled environment.

The private heated plunge pool has a 'wall of water' feature continuously cascading down the striking local black basalt - stunning against the greenery of bamboo and palms.

The sliding plunge pool cover, when open, can be used as a seating area for up to 5 people. The cover must be pulled closed when you leave the property.

Adjacent to the plunge pool is an outdoor Balinese style shower and an outdoor stone bath. This area can be made completely private or one or two of the shutters left open to let nature in - you feel like you are in a wooded oasis.

The immense terrace (apprx 150m2) overlooks the park with views to the Chateau and has a seating area with comfortable cushions, an area for outdoor dining and an outdoor kitchen with stone sink and plancha.

For a Wedding the terrace is an ideal setting for the Wedding Meal and will take tables and chairs to seat maximum 70 guests.

Clients renting the Orangerie have access to the main pool at HE097A Domaine Occitania and communal areas. The magnificent salt water infinity pool, 24m x 6m x 0.20cm-1.3m-1.8m, is shared by all 8 properties. At the shallow end a 'plage Californie' (depth 20cm) with 3 stone islands and Roman steps between each one lead down to the deeper section. The finish of black and basalt glass mosaic, complements the surrounding greenery and attracts the summer heat raising the pool temperature a couple of degrees higher than traditional blue tiles.

Beziers apprx 10km. The cathedral dominates this busy market town, rising majestically above the river Orb. The lively Feria in August lasts five days; bull-fighting, paellas, flamenco dancing, and partying in the streets until the early hours of the morning.

South of France beaches apprx 20km.

Canal du Midi - 9 locks at Beziers and the pretty villages along the route - like Capestang and Le Somail are lovely.

Parc Naturel du Haut Languedoc apprx 20km north of Thezan are the mountains and rocky gorges of the Caroux mountains.

Great canoeing on the river Orb at Reals and Roquebrun

Cap d'Agde apprx 31km. 'Aqualand' (huge water-slides, etc.) 27-hole golf course.

Agde apprx 35km. Old historic town and fishing port, founded by the Ancient Greeks. Nice market, excellent seafood restaurants
